In a twist straight out of a bizarre thriller, German customs officers uncovered a shocking haul of tarantulas hidden in a cookie shipment from Vietnam. Imagine the surprise when they opened a box only to be greeted by the creepy crawlies instead of the sweet treats they were expecting! Around 1,500 tarantulas were packed into plastic tubes, and unfortunately, many didn’t survive the trip. It seems that the only thing scarier than a spider in your kitchen is a tarantula trying to sneak its way into the country.
The customs officials are scratching their heads over how someone thought this would be a good idea. Jens Ahland, the customs spokesman, shared how even the most experienced officers were left speechless by the discovery. It’s hard to deny that it raises a creepy question: what’s next? Are we expecting to find tarantulas in our candy canes for the holidays? The lengths people go to for profit never cease to amaze.
The incident has opened up an investigation into the package’s intended recipient for not declaring the shipment or paying the necessary duties. That’s one cookie package that definitely didn’t come with a side of dessert. Next time someone asks for cookies at a gathering, we might want to take a closer look!
