The Coconino County prosecutor overseeing the criminal case against the suspect from the Feb. 4 police standoff that ended with a fatal helicopter crash affirmed in a recent court filing that there is no evidence indicating Terrell Storey “shot the helicopter out of the sky.”
Storey, 50, was charged with 60 criminal counts after his arrest, including two counts of first-degree murder stemming from the deaths of the two people aboard the downed Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter. Under a legal framework often known as “felony murder,” a person can be charged with first-degree murder in Arizona if they cause someone else’s death while committing certain other felony crimes.
