Coconino National Forest (CNF), Coconino County, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM), and the City of Flagstaff all announced they will enter Stage 1 fire restrictions on Thursday, May 21 beginning at 8 a.m., heading into the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The announcement comes after multiple Red Flag Warnings were issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for northern Arizona in the past week. The city has received just 0.18 inches of precipitation in May and is now just 1.05 inches ahead of the normal value since Oct. 1. For the calendar year, the 4.27 inches of rain in Flagstaff is 3.16 below the normal of 7.43 inches. The 26.9 inches of snowfall for the season is 63.0 inches behind the normal of 89.9 and Flagstaff is still at its hottest average temperature and highest max temperature in history through the first half of May.
