Growing to 500 acres five hours after it was initially reported, the Rock Canyon Fire began burning 18 miles east of Fredonia and southeast of Kanab, Utah on Monday afternoon.
Initially reported by the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) just after 2 p.m., the fire began at 2 acres before quickly being upgraded to 5 acres. At 6 p.m. on Monday evening, the NIFC increased the fire’s acreage to 100 acres before a post on the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for Arizona’s social media accounts increased the total to 500 acres at 7 p.m.
