The Flagstaff Little League (FLL) All-Star Majors’ run to the Arizona State Little League championship game was a feat many both in and out of the mountain city did not expect. Out of 13 teams from across Arizona in the tournament, Flagstaff stood above all but one, despite being the smallest team in the field.
The All-Star Majors, led by manager Gary Kirkman and assistant coaches Shane Burcar and Tim Palmer, put together a team of Flagstaff’s best to compete against leagues with larger talent pools from larger cities. Flagstaff went on a run in this year’s all-star season, going 10-2 across the district and state tournaments. The group of players ages 12 and under had the chemistry and identity to make a deep run, and they had the right coaches to take charge.
