Meet Alex Butler, a Seattle teen who turned a family game night idea into a million-dollar empire. At just seven years old, he created Taco vs Burrito, a card game that pits culinary favorites against each other, and it’s been a massive hit! Launched on Amazon in 2018, the game has sold 1.5 million copies, raking in nearly 1.1 million dollars in its first year alone. Not too shabby for a kid who once was indifferent to tacos and burritos!
With backing from his mom, Leslie Pierson, who helped raise $25,000 to kickstart the gaming venture, Alex has now sold Taco vs Burrito to PlayMonster. Although PlayMonster has kept the sale price under wraps, Alex has his sights set on a shiny new Lamborghini. Because when you’re a teen millionaire, a sensible family sedan just won’t cut it, right? Imagine cruising around in style—while debating whether a taco or burrito wins the culinary showdown!
Despite the success, Alex has made it clear that he doesn’t see game design as his future path; he’s moving on to music, sports, and video games instead. So what’s the lesson here? Maybe it’s that sometimes the best business ideas start off at the dinner table. If you could turn any childhood idea into a business, what would it be? Let’s hear some amazing ideas in the comments!
