Dawn Delamater, a treasured sixth-grade teacher at Rondout Valley Central School District, is hanging up her chalk after an impressive 35 years in the classroom. It’s bittersweet as the classroom not only celebrated her achievements but also had a hand in empowering her students through stories of positivity from the Good News Network. Imagine being able to teach your kids about journalism while they also learn to appreciate the good things happening around them—it’s like giving them a superhero cape, but instead of saving the world, they’re just spreading positivity.
Her students expressed their gratitude in heartfelt ways, showcasing that she wasn’t just a teacher; she was a beacon of inspiration. With farewell parties and praises filling the air, it’s clear that her legacy will live on in those classrooms. And speaking of legacies, June 19 is a day of historical significance, with events from Lou Gehrig’s birthday to the first official baseball game all occurring on this day. Who knew a teacher’s retirement would coincide with such a rich history?
