After six more days of temperatures in the 70s, Flagstaff is finally set to see a reprieve from the March heat wave that swept the southwestern United States over the past two weeks.
A high of 69 degrees on Sunday mercifully snapped a streak of 12 consecutive days during which Flagstaff set a new daily high or matched the previous record dating back to 1900. As measured by the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Bellemont at Flagstaff Pulliam Airport, all 10 days from March 18 to March 27 surpassed the previous monthly record of 73 degrees. After the run peaked at 84 degrees on March 19, this past week saw March 25 and March 27 each hit a high of 77 to remain 22 degrees above normal for the time of year.
