The C.V. Starr Bonsai Museum in Brooklyn is turning 100, and they’re throwing quite the birthday bash! This delightful garden showcases the largest bonsai exhibition ever, featuring some of the oldest trees known to man—like a 500-year-old Rocky Mountain juniper and an Sargent juniper, which has been around for an astounding 800 years. Talk about a long life filled with good vibes and better pruning!
Visitors can enjoy guided tours, live bonsai demonstrations, and even candlelit Sake dinners. It’s like a peaceful garden party where the trees might just be the ones hosting, and you get to enjoy the exotic views! The event runs until October 19, which gives you plenty of time to explore the over 400 specimens on display. Who knew that mini trees could offer such a big slice of joy?
Frank Masao Okamura, the garden’s first bonsai curator, helped expand this collection under his expert care. He introduced tropical plants and a whole new way of seeing these little wonders. As trees go, this collection is like the tree version of a Hollywood blockbuster—full of history, intrigue, and the occasional dramatic branch. So for anyone who thinks bonsai is a plant for the unambitious, you might just want to reconsider.
Would you ever consider owning a bonsai tree, or is that just a little too much commitment for a pet rock? Tell us your thoughts, and join the celebration of this lush legacy!
