In a scene that sounds right out of an action movie, two teens and a firefighter found themselves stranded on a cliff in Lincoln County, Oregon. When the situation became more than just a hike gone awry, the U.S. Coast Guard swung into action. With the request for help coming via Lincoln County Dispatch, an MH-60 helicopter crew made their way to the daunting cliffside to rescue the trio. Who knew doing the right thing could lead to a dramatic descent?
Hovering overhead, the helicopter crew was lowered down by ropes to retrieve the stranded individuals one by one. Amanda Denning, Executive Officer of Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, expressed her relief at the successful operation. She mentioned that the teams frequently train for challenging rescues in the Pacific Northwest, but let’s be honest—there’s a big difference between training and an actual rescue mission!
Picture it: you think you’re up for a little outdoor adventure, then suddenly find yourself precariously perched on a cliff. It’s a reminder of nature’s unpredictability and the need for caution, especially when you’re surrounded by jagged rocks. Have you ever found yourself in a similar risky situation? It’s not exactly a “I climbed a mountain” story—more like a “thank goodness for the Coast Guard” tale!
So, next time you’re exploring the great outdoors, maybe pack an extra safety measure or two. Or at the very least, think twice before scaling any sheer cliffs—those rescue crews have better things to do!
