D.L. Hughley has come out swinging, and he’s not holding back on his thoughts about former Trump supporters. During a recent appearance on “TMZ Live,” Hughley made a strong case against forgiveness for those who abandoned ship after realizing the chaos created by the former president had a personal cost to them. In his eyes, hopping off the Trump train doesn’t earn a reprieve—it just exposes a level of selfishness. He’s questioning why it takes personal stakes to change one’s mind while others have suffered long before that moment arrived.
Not only does Hughley address the seemingly blind loyalty still present in the Republican party, but he also dives into what he sees as a lack of awareness among supporters who suddenly critique policies when they hit home. It’s the classic scenario of self-interest over the collective experience, and he’s putting those former supporters on blast. If loyalties aren’t based on consistent values, do they really hold any weight? Who knew political commentary could come with a side of slice and dice?
Hughley makes it clear: loyalty in politics ought to mean something. We can’t completely throw forgiveness out the window—after all, everyone deserves a second chance. But when someone only wakes up to the consequences of their choices after it affects them personally, should we really applaud that decision? What do you think? Is it too late for these former supporters, or should they earn redemption?
