Last night, the usually calm Duwamish River turned into the scene of a drama as emergency crews responded to a potential drowning report. Bystanders spotted someone struggling in the water near East Marginal Way in Tukwila and, quicker than you could say “water rescue,” 911 was dialed. The Puget Sound Fire crew arrived armed with inflatable kayaks, ready to comb the river, while the King County Sheriff’s helicopter hovered overhead like a hawk watching over its territory.
After an intense 90-minute search, the rescuers unfortunately found no one in distress. It’s a bit like watching a suspenseful thriller where you think you know the ending, only to be left in suspense when the credits roll without any resolution. While firefighters reported their findings on social media, they did hand over the situation to the Tukwila Police Department for further investigation. The lake of clarity on this incident begs the question: was the person who struggled in the water just a ghost of summer past?
With the waters calm again, one can’t help but wonder: do we need to be more vigilant near our local rivers? Or are these incidents just a draw to our collective curiosity? It’d be interesting to hear your thoughts!
