Can you believe it’s been over a decade since Seattle-Tacoma International Airport hit a blistering 103 degrees on July 29, 2009? That historic day not only set a temperature record but also marked a turning point for the region’s weather history. Fast forward to the present, and Seafair week is back to bring both fun and unpredictable weather, just like that one uncle at family gatherings who can never stick to the plan.
This July, forecasters are predicting high temperatures and possible thunderstorms as the Blue Angels buzz about for their air shows. With only one hundredth of an inch of rain this month, the city is feeling the heat—and let’s not forget the six recorded days of rain since the 1890s. As excitement builds for race day and air shows, everyone’s also keeping their fingers crossed for clear skies.
But while there’s a lot of buzz about Seafair, let’s not ignore the dry conditions that leave us at risk for wildfires. So if you’re planning on grilling up some burgers or having a bonfire—maybe stick to hot dogs and s’mores around the campfire on someone else’s property? Or at least, let’s hope the marine air keeps the air quality in check. After all, no one wants to burn the fun away just because the weather can’t make up its mind!
