When it comes to hiking, it’s always best to go prepared, or at the very least, to take the right route. A 21-year-old hiker recently discovered this the hard way when he found himself needing a rescue on Aasgard Pass after sending a distress text to 911. Just imagine the scene: yelling for help while they try to decipher which way is up! With reports of an injured ankle and more, he really made the hike memorable—maybe not in the way he intended.
Rescue crews braved the night air, waiting until morning light to safely hoist him out of a precarious spot close to Dragontail Peak. Thanks to the trained professionals from the U.S. Army Air Ambulance Detachment Yakima and other volunteers, he was safely lifted to the ground—though our adventurous friend declined medical treatment. Maybe he thought the real adventure was just getting back home in one piece, but hey, he might want to rethink his definition of “fun!”
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office had a few words for would-be hikers, recommending thorough research before attempting Aasgard Pass. Who needs a horror film when you can experience a spine-tingling rescue yourself, right? So, here’s a question for all you outdoor enthusiasts: what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done while hiking?
Whether he learned his lesson or not, one thing’s for sure—next time, he’ll probably choose his trail a bit more wisely!
