Bryan Kohberger is finding out that prison isn’t just a place where the food is bad and the beds are uncomfortable. After being convicted of murdering four college students, he’s now faced with the unenviable task of navigating life behind bars, complete with incessant taunting from fellow inmates. Turns out, his infamous past isn’t winning him any friends. Steve Goncalves, the father of one of Kohberger’s victims, is getting a kick out of Kohberger’s misery, and why wouldn’t he? It’s the least the guy deserves!
Complaining to guards about being yelled at through vents? That’s a rookie move, and Kohberger’s probably learning the hard way that snitching in prison is a sure way to earn yourself some extra attention—and none of it good. Goncalves expresses his satisfaction, suggesting that Kohberger’s inability to handle the heat only reinforces his reputation as a coward. I mean, can you imagine someone like Kohberger whining to the very people he hoped would protect him? Talk about irony!
Of course, Goncalves believes there’s something deeper at play here. He theorizes that inmates might perceive Kohberger as a threat due to his crimes, committed against victims who were asleep. The idea that he’s “marked” in prison because he targeted young college students does stir up some thoughts. Shouldn’t every inmate be worried about their standing? Or is Kohberger getting exactly what he deserves? Let’s face it, he’s written his own narrative and now has to play his cards in a very different game.
As we watch this unfold, it leaves us questioning the dynamics of justice within prison walls. How does one go from being a feared criminal to facing ridicule? What do you think about Kohberger’s experience? Is it karma, or just the way things are in prison?
