In a bizarre twist that could rival any Hollywood plot, John Goodman found himself needing emergency surgery after a fall on the set of his movie with Tom Cruise. While filming an intense scene with the acclaimed director Alejandro G. Iñárritu in the UK, Goodman took a tumble, landing hard on his hip. At 73 years old, that’s not exactly the kind of leap you want to make! Thankfully, his fall turned out to be more dramatic than dangerous, although it required a little nicety from the surgeon’s knife.
Goodman recounted the moment he hit the floor and instantly feared the worst. Imagine the scene: the lights are shining, the cameras are rolling, and suddenly, down goes the star. The on-set doctor rushed him straight to the hospital, where X-rays revealed a fractured hip. Talk about taking method acting to a whole new level!
After surgery and a month benched from filming, Goodman is back at it! He dodged being cut from the film, allowing him to pause, gather himself, and return with plenty of time left. Recovery can feel like a year in Hollywood, so he must be thrilled to rejoin co-stars like Jesse Plemons and Riz Ahmed. Here’s hoping his next role involves less falling and more standing ovations!
Do you have any crazy on-set injury stories, or have you ever had a freak accident while working? It seems like Hollywood isn’t the only place where the unexpected can happen!
