Talk about a species mash-up! Colchester Zoo in Essex was thrown for a loop when a tiny otter cub named Mingo was discovered fast asleep in the flamingo habitat. Weighing in at less than two pounds, this little guy was all alone and snoring like he was the king of the birds. It’s unclear how Mingo ended up in such an unlikely spot, but staff member Jody Bedford found the orphaned cutie curled up by the lake, prompting a rapid rescue operation.
Mingo’s adventure had an even happier ending. After a brief stay at Wildlives Rescue, he’s now under the care of the UK Wild Otter Trust, where experts are ensuring he gets all the love and attention he needs to thrive. Who knew flamingos could attract such cute visitors? Without intervention, Mingo would have faced some serious survival challenges, but now he’s on the path to recovery and ultimately, a return to the wild. Just imagine the stories he’ll tell his otter buddies about the times he hung out with the pink birds!
