In a move that’s raising eyebrows across the nation, Eric Orwoll, co-founder of a whites-only community in Arkansas called Return to the Land, is pushing for separate community centers based on race. Orwoll claims that such segregation would protect European heritage—because apparently, being surrounded by diverse cultures is just so traumatic. He argues that it’s really about voluntary choices, which is honestly a nice spin on an uncomfortable topic, but many are skeptical, to say the least.
In his interview, Orwoll maintained that while others mix their cultures as they please, he feels this dilutes the “pure cultural ancestry” of white Americans. Meanwhile, Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin isn’t holding back; he shot back that racism has no place in the state, marking one helluva contrast to Orwoll’s ambitions. It seems like the 1950s just called and asked for its segregationist ideas back!
The irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Orwoll suggests Black and Jewish folks should also have their own exclusive centers—because nothing says community like dividing everyone further! With such divisive ideologies bubbling up, one has to wonder: how far will this “cultural preservation” rhetoric go? What’ll they think of next—cultural monuments to celebrate the “glorious past” of segregation?
Is it time to rally for unity and embrace our differences instead? Let’s hear your thoughts! Do you think separate community centers can actually ‘celebrate’ culture, or is it the start of something troubling?
