Snohomish County is raising eyebrows—and concerns—after reporting a shocking nine children have fallen out of windows this year alone. Just last week, two little ones added to this startling statistic, bringing to light a trend parents can’t afford to ignore. Thankfully, all children survived, but the risk of serious injury from these falls is far too real. After all, who knew a window could pose such a perilous threat?
South County Fire took to social media to remind parents that window screens are no match for a curious child’s weight. Christie Veley from South County Fire emphasized that these screens are more about keeping bugs out than keeping kids in. So much for counting on them as a safety feature! Instead, they suggest parents install window stops, limiting how far windows can be opened. It’s a small step that could make a big difference.
As a parent, it’s a bit disconcerting to think that something as innocent as a window could turn into a potential danger zone. So, what’s your take? Have you taken any safety precautions at home regarding windows? Maybe you have a funny story about a close call? Join the conversation below, and let’s all ensure our homes stay safe havens for our little adventurers!
