When a beloved Alexandrine parakeet named Rambi flew the coop—well, he flew pretty far, landing over 100 miles away in Dorset, England. How did this large green bird, who had only flown around the house before, manage such a feat? It all started when his owner, Yianoulla Evangelou, accidentally left the cage door open during a family barbecue. With construction noise possibly spooking him, Rambi took to the skies, leaving the family scrambling to find their feathered friend.
The search was intense, involving the entire neighborhood of Islington, where Yianoulla and her family knocked on doors, put up posters, and checked with every local vet. Weeks went by, and just when they began to lose hope, they received a call from the animal charity Wildlife in Need. They’d found a parakeet matching Rambi’s description and, after some clever detective work, confirmed it was indeed their lost bird!
What’s even more puzzling is how Rambi got himself to the south coast—it’s speculated he might have hitchhiked on someone’s vehicle. Talk about a bird with a taste for adventure! As Yianoulla joked, the only one who knows exactly how it happened is Rambi himself, and let’s just hope his next adventure doesn’t involve trying to become a world-traveling parakeet—the last thing we need is a bird passport! What would your pet do if given a chance to explore the world?
