The summer heat in Washington is turning up, literally. With eleven active wildfires blazing across the state and four designated as large, it’s not exactly the season to be playing with fire. The Hope Fire, for instance, has already burned more than 7,000 acres and remains just 15% contained. Evacuations are in full swing, and folks are wondering if this year will be the new “hot” summer blockbuster of wildfires!
Then there’s the Western Pines Fire, which has damaged a shocking number of structures while apparently taking an unexpected vacation by shrinking ever so slightly over the weekend. Who knew wildfires could be on such a wild rollercoaster? Over in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, the Pomas Fire is growing steadily and showing no signs of slowing down. Firefighters are facing daunting obstacles, like steep cliffs and dead trees—talk about the ultimate fire-fighting challenge!
