A recent Letter to the Editor complaining of being ripped off at local Flagstaff breweries (“Brewery prices in Flagstaff bad for the customer,” May 30, 2026) paints an inaccurate picture of the economic realities facing our local breweries. As a longtime homebrewer with an interest in what it takes to operate a brewery in our town, I contend brewery prices in Flagstaff are REASONABLE for the customer!
The assertion that the cost of gasoline and craft beer should be comparable is unrealistic, there’s little economic correlation between the costs of a global commodity verses a locally produced product. Before convening a consumer group to investigate this perceived rip off, here are some economic facts to consider:
