Ask a Ranger: Arizona’s wild orchids

There are wild orchids in Arizona — 26 species, in fact. Most are found in southern counties, but a handful can be found in the pine forests surrounding Flagstaff.

The genus Orchidacae is huge, some 200 species in the United States alone. Most are not the showy plants sold in food stores that have been hybridized from Asian plants.
