Mel Owens, the latest heartthrob on “The Golden Bachelor,” has found himself in a bit of hot water after making some not-so-great comments about the age of women he prefers to date. During a podcast in June, he stated he’d like to date ladies aged between 45 and 60 and even added a questionable remark about avoiding “artificial hips and wigs.” Not exactly the kind of thing that wins you any points in the court of public opinion!
The backlash was swift, and it didn’t take long for Owens to realize he’d crossed a major line. After an avalanche of criticism, he took to the set of “The Golden Bachelor” to apologize to the women he would be working with. Good move, Mel. He reported that many of the ladies appreciated his gesture, which probably saved him a few awkward moments in the latest season’s one-on-ones. Can you imagine the roasts he might have faced otherwise?
As the season unfolds, Mel seems to be a little taken aback by the dynamism and brilliance of the women around him—an unexpected twist for a guy with so many opinions! One can only hope he keeps his foot out of his mouth moving forward, and judging by his age of 66, he might just pick up a few insights along the way. It’s all about learning and growing, right? Speaking of growing, how important is it to be sensitive to age when dating?
