Reckless driving reached new heights—literally—thanks to the Washington State Patrol aircraft known as “Smokey.” In a night filled with drama, Smokey swooped in to help arrest two drivers who thought they could outrun the law. The first suspect, reportedly behind the wheel while under the influence, took off from highway patrol. It was like a scene straight out of an action movie, only with the added thrill of a car stuck between two others in Fife!
Just when you think it couldn’t get crazier, another driver in a BMW zoomed down I-5 at nearly 100 mph. Apparently oblivious to the safety of fellow motorists, this individual thought he could evade arrest too. Spoiler alert: he was wrong. Smokey tracked him all the way to the Cascade Mountains before spike strips brought his joyride to an end in a field near Ellensburg. Yes, that’s right—a field! Who says police work isn’t adventurous?
It’s amazing how one aircraft can change the game in high-speed chases—and don’t you dare call Smokey a mere “plane.” This trusty aircraft isn’t just a flight of fancy; it’s a powerful tool for making our roads safer. If only the drivers had been informed that “getting caught” would be the best part of their night. What do you think? Is it time for the police to add drones to their crime-fighting arsenal?
