Seattle has finally hit the pause button—on their commutes, that is. The Revive Interstate-5 project has caused some serious headaches for drivers lately, with the northbound side narrowing from four lanes to just two. It’s become a commuter’s nightmare, with 250,000 drivers feeling the pinch daily while trying to cross the Ship Canal Bridge. So, if you thought traffic jams were a mere annoyance, think again; they’ve been transformed into epic sagas of endurance!
To add to the tumult, WSDOT announced a weekend shutdown starting at midnight where all northbound lanes of I-5 will be closed through downtown. Yes, you read that right: completely closed. So, better grab that coffee and a few podcasts if you plan on hitting the road. The express lanes are staying open for those coming from the south, but for our friends in the north, well, you might want to think about alternatives or invest in a good book!
On a lighter note, it seems like Mother Nature has joined the fun too. This weekend’s forecast includes heavy rain, which might just limit the types of maintenance work that can go on. So while the crews are trying to tackle asphalt and guardrails, Mother Nature could decide to pull the rug out from under them. It’s like a reality show out there—who knew construction could be so dramatic? What’s your go-to strategy for surviving the next wave of traffic chaos?
