If you thought construction was just a warm-weather problem, think again! Washington is shaking things up by embracing a year-round approach to roadwork. Gone are the days of waiting for warmer months to get those projects underway. With the Washington Department of Transportation pulling long hours, it looks like the only thing seasonal about construction now is the traffic griping we’ll hear all year long.
Tom Pearce from WSDOT spills the beans on the new normal—winter’s not just for hibernation anymore! They can clear out trees and dig holes even when it’s cold enough for hot chocolate. So buckle up, Seattle drivers; we’ll still be navigating through construction cones during your holiday road trips. That’s right, the heavy machinery is here to make sure we can enjoy our scenic routes—it just might take a little longer than expected.
And just when you thought you could get a break, some major closures are coming fast. This weekend, get ready for I-405 to turn into the “I-can’t-move” highway as they work on that widening project. Plus, expect some detours on I-5 in Kent. Who knew that staying updated on traffic could be a full-time job? Maybe I should add “cone dodger” to my resume!
So what do you think? Will these year-round projects improve the roads in the long run, or are we stuck in the slow lane? Leave your thoughts below!
