Flagstaff loves a parade. One exceptionally popular perennial parade entry is a shiny green truck carrying Smoky Bear, escorted by National Forest personnel. That jaunty green vehicle is a lovingly rebuilt 1925 Dodge Brothers truck.
It is the oldest motor vehicle continuously owned and operated by the Forest Service. Currently housed with the Coconino National Forest fleet in Flagstaff and shared throughout the Southwest region, this venerable vehicle will continue to be part of history when it goes on loan to the nonprofit National Museum of Forest Service History for its grand opening this summer in Missoula, Montana.
