1926: Realizing the extreme importance of a suitable slogan for Flagstaff, the Chamber of Commerce has opened a contest to all those interested. The contest began yesterday and will close August 15. “What we want,” said P. J. Morgan, president of the Chamber, “is a peppy, up-to-the-minute slogan that will fittingly express to those who know nothing about this section, just what we have to offer. It must be short and right to the point, not having over six words nor less than three words. Flagstaff is unusual in its climatic conditions and scenery. Our industrial activity should also be considered. Remember these things when coining this slogan that is to be used in all our publicity. And in order that this job shall be done right, we are coming to the people of this wonderful country, for no one is better fitted for this than the people who actually live here.” There are just a few rules governing this contest. They include: All slogans must be written in ink on one side of the paper only, with the name and address of the sender at the top of the sheet. More than one slogan may be submitted by a single individual. Whenever possible, use the coupon provided below. According to the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, a selection of prizes will be offered, these prizes to be announced in the next issue of The Sun. All prizes will be worth working for and desirable.
