The National Park Service announced a new framework for regulating “powered micromobility devices” such as e-scooters, “hoverboards,” and Segways on Tuesday, Aug. 11, establishing some system-wide rules and prohibitions while leaving other decisions up to park superintendents.
The updated regulations define a “powered micromobility device” as “a human-operated, self-propelled device with a curb weight of less than 150 pounds and without an internal combustion engine.”
