Margaret Cho recently pulled back the curtain on her rocky relationship with Ellen DeGeneres during an episode of the Kelly Mantle Show. It turns out, the comedy world isn’t all hugs and laughs, as Cho labeled DeGeneres “really weird” and “not nice” during their long history together. Opening for her in the ’80s seemed like a blast at the time, but fast forward to the 2000s, and it felt like DeGeneres had amnesia about their shared past. Talk about a comic tragedy!
Now, Cho didn’t stop there. She recounted a particular moment of embarrassment when her account of receiving a compliment from David Bowie was axed from The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Apparently, Bowie was all about her “giant Chinese emperor outfit,” but instead of sharing that fab moment, DeGeneres chose to cut it! Let’s be real—if you can’t share Bowie love, what’s the point? Cho’s a pro, and if anyone knows the value of a good laugh, it’s her.
But Cho isn’t alone in her grievance. Fellow comics Rosie O’Donnell and Kathy Griffin have also voiced their discontent over their interactions with DeGeneres. It seems the comedy community is feeling a bit frayed around the edges. This begs the question: can friendships survive the tough gig that is showbiz? Has the comedy world turned into a competitive sport where loyalty is merely a punchline?
Let’s hear your thoughts: Have you ever had a falling out with a friend only to realize they’re not the person you thought they were? A little drama goes a long way in the entertainment biz, but is this feud just another headline, or does it hit closer to home for many of us?
