It turns out picking a baby name in the U.S. isn’t always as free-spirited as it seems! In fact, some parents have found themselves at odds with the law over their unique choices. From the eye-popping name “Jesus Christ” being banned in several states to a bold attempt at naming a kid Adolf Hitler, there are some names that simply won’t fly in court. Who knew naming a child could turn into something resembling a courtroom drama?
The situation gets even spicier with names like “@” (yes, the symbol) and “1069” also being turned down. Those who think they can get creative by tossing in numbers or symbols should prepare for some serious rejection. And let’s not forget the attempt to name a child Santa Claus—a name that landed a dad in hot water because, apparently, it was misleading. Who knew a jolly old name could be seen as a deception for the kids?
This begs the question: how far should a parent go in a quest to be different with baby names? While many names could be seen as creative, some might land you in a legal scuffle. So, what’s your take—are there names that should definitely be banned? Or is the freedom to choose names, however wild, a right worth fighting for?
