1926: Under the leadership of the Women’s club and under the general direction of Mrs. F.M. Gold, president of that organization, Flagstaff next week will be given the most intensive and aggressive cleaning-up campaign ever conducted here. And the way everyone is cooperating is fine. The Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, the schools, the churches, the civic and fraternal organizations — all are enthusiastically in line. Now, if individual citizens will only do their part, straightening fences and gates, raking up and disposing of weeds, ash piles and rubbish, it will make the campaign a complete success. If the campaign is a success, we may all feel with pride that we have made this a healthier and cleaner town. It will make a more favorable impression on visitors. It will enhance real estate values.
Editor Chris Etling takes you behind the scenes of just one example of how we look through archives for information used in the Flagstaff History column.

Billy Weldon talks with guests during an unveiling ceremony for a statue of him Friday morning at Marshall Elementary School. Weldon, the longtime crossing guard at the school, is a Vietnam veteran who served in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division and has spent a lifetime working to support veterans. Neil Logan, Weldon’s childhood friend and fellow Vietnam veteran, created a bronze bust of Weldon to honor his service to the community. The sculpture will be placed in the school’s lobby, greeting future generations of Marshall Mustangs as they walk into school each day.
