1926: Active work on the conditioning of the golf course is in full swing now under the expert direction of Mr. Jackson, golf professional. When completed, the season will open with a tournament, when it is expected that a large crowd will gather. Further tournaments will be scheduled for the summer and will keep enthusiasm high. Already this spring a number of golfers have driven here from other cities to enjoy our links. In an unrivaled setting of natural beauty, our course will equal any in the state when the new cottonseed greens are completed. Cottonseed hulls for greens have proven satisfactory. Tried out on several courses in the state, they make better greens than grass or sand. They are not affected by weather, and the only cost will be the initial one of installing, as they are so durable there will be no upkeep expense. The course has been changed, some of the fairways lengthened and extra bunkers and sandbeds put in for hazards. The membership quota is nearly filled, and as the opening of the season approaches, the outlook is promising for a most successful year. A charge of 75 cents apiece was fixed as the rate to apply to guests accompanying members.
