I am an Arizona native and former longtime resident of Flagstaff, where I lived and worked for about 23 years, with over 18 years of that time serving with the city police and county sheriff as an officer/deputy. I watched the town change during the years I lived there, and have sadly continued watching the changes in Flagstaff and Arizona from another state. I have been gone for 20 years and still miss the state and living in Flagstaff, where I rode many hours and miles of singletrack trails and Forest Service roads on my mountain bike and hiking the peaks.
It saddens me to see the fear mongering used to stir up hate against ICE. Is ICE perfect, is Flagstaff PD perfect, is anyone or thing perfect? No. Are the citizens of the United States and individual states suffering as a result of the massive influx of illegals that were allowed into this country? Yes. It might be an unfortunate reality to some of you, but Arizona and the United States can’t continue the path currently traveled, handing out taxpayer dollars to those who are not legal citizens of this country, to the detriment of legal citizens. Do thousands of illegal residents live peacefully, working and raising families, contributing? Yes, but not enough to support the enormous costs of having them here, like the $350 million given to NAU as an “HSI” (Hispanic Serving Institution) as mentioned in the recent article in the paper. When illegal residents are getting free tuition from schools while legal residents can’t afford tuition, there is a problem, Houston!
