The rumors, innuendos, and outright misinformation that is flowing from some regarding the merger between Coconino Humane Association (CHA) and High Country Humane (HCH) doesn’t serve the animals that rely on us for their care and for finding them loving homes.
The statements made to discredit HCH, the remaining animal shelter in Coconino County and Flagstaff, certainly does not help the animals. Both CHA and HCH are privately held nonprofit corporations, governed through their respective governing boards. The CHA board approached the HCH board and asked HCH to consider taking over CHA, citing serious financial problems, including monthly deficits that would result in CHA’s closure by this Fall. CHA’s financial deficits are both real and documented. HCH agreed to take on the financial difficulties and to make the hard decisions that come with financial constraints, including reductions in staff, all for the welfare of the animals.
