My early ’90s college cross country team had a strict dress code: dress grays (our term for our gray cotton T-shirts) and Allegheny College embroidered sweatpants colored navy blue and bold gold. Rainy day practices were especially precarious when our gear became 20-pound mops barely hanging from our waists. These baggy outfits had holes and drawstrings that broke.
As an aspiring distance runner, this was a complication I could have done without.
