While in college to get my mechanical engineering degree, I took thermodynamics. I learned that when you add energy to a system, it creates turbulence. That is what we are seeing with climate change. As the atmospheric temperature increases, it creates turbulence – higher highs, lower lows and intense storms.
To address climate change, we need to reduce our methane and carbon dioxide emissions. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use electric heat pumps rather than gas furnaces. I encourage Coconino Community College (CCC) to specify heat pumps in their planned new buildings. It is most efficient to install heat pumps during initial construction rather than as an afterthought.
