Samuel Bateman, once the leader of a splinter group of the polygamist Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) in Colorado City and currently serving a 50-year federal prison sentence for child sex trafficking and kidnapping, will stand trial this week in Flagstaff for charges of child abuse.
Bateman, now 50, was arrested in August 2022 after he was stopped on Huntington Drive pulling an enclosed cargo trailer with three minors inside. He was released from the Coconino County Detention Facility after his followers paid his $150,000 cash bond, but rearrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) two weeks later.
