Last November, voters approved a $100 million capital construction bond for Coconino Community College (CCC). Now the CCC Board of Directors is approving building designs for new buildings at the Lone Tree and 4th Street campuses without consideration of long-term costs or sustainability.
The CCC Board hired DLR Group architects and CORE Construction and are in the process of approving building plans with gas furnaces instead of heat pumps. This will increase operational costs at CCC for decades because gas is expensive, furnaces are not as energy efficient as heat pumps, and combustion furnaces create pollution that has local and global consequences.
