Tickets have been selling quickly for the Lollipop Matinee of “The Nutcracker Ball” on Saturday, the opening scene from “The Nutcracker Ballet, Op. 71,” performed by the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra and the NAU Community Music and Dance Academy Ballet Troupe.
In addition to the Lollipop show, evening performances of the full ballet are Friday and Saturday nights. All are at Ardrey Auditorium.
As of Thursday night, the Central Ticket Office in the NAU Student Union said there are about 100 tickets left for the matinee, 500 for the Friday evening show and 800 for the Saturday evening concert.
The symphony will be led by Elizabeth Schulze, principal conductor, with choreography by Andrew Needhammer, who has been the chief choreographer with the academy at NAU for nine years..
Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the ballet has delighted audiences around the world since its debut with the Imperial Russian Ballet on Dec. 17, 1892, at the Maryinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.
Tchaikovsky composed this, his third and final ballet, one year before his death.
