A kitchen fire in the Smokerise neighborhood of east Flagstaff Wednesday night caused an estimated $50,000 in damages before it was contained by city firefighters.
According to a fire department press release, the fire started about 5:30 p.m. in the kitchen of a house on Snowshoe Way and spread to the attic.
A resident said he was heating oil on the stove to cook doughnuts and then went outside to play guitar on the porch, according to a police report. The man told an officer that he forgot about the stove until he came back inside and noticed the fire.
The fire was quickly contained and no residents or firefighters were injured from the blaze. Fire damage is estimated at $50,000.
