A kitchen fire in the Smokerise neighborhood of east Flagstaff this evening caused an estimated $50,000 in damages before it was contained by city firefighters.
According to a fire department press release, the fire started about 5:30 p.m. in the kitchen of a house on Snowshoe Way and spread to the attic.
The fire reportedly began when cooking oil was left unattended, heating on the stove top.
The fire was quickly contained and no residents or firefighters were injured from the blaze. Fire damage is estimated at $50,000.
