As summer winds down, Seattleites only have one week left to soak in those glorious 8 p.m. sunsets. Mark your calendars for next Thursday, because once that sun dips below the horizon, prepare for the gradual shift into longer nights and shorter days. It’s the time of year when we experience a daily decrease of roughly three minutes of sunlight—think of it as nature’s way of telling us to gear up for cozy sweaters and pumpkin spice everything.
From June 22 to June 28, we were fortunate to enjoy sunsets as late as 9:11 p.m., but those days are behind us. The longer days of summer can feel like a magical gift, but alas, as the Earth tilts away from the sun, our sun-soaked evenings will soon turn into crisp fall nights. So, grab your sunglasses and your favorite outdoor chair while you can; we’re racing against time here!
Weather-wise, this week is looking pretty sweet with temperatures above 80 degrees, perfect for squeezing in those last-minute barbecues and long walks by the water. It’s as if Mother Nature is giving us one last hurrah with these sunny skies. What do you plan to do with those final summer evenings? Get out there and enjoy it!
So, as we bid farewell to the longer days, let’s reflect on what summer has meant for us. After all, what will you miss most about those long Seattle sunsets? I’ll take the memories, a tan line that will fade by Thanksgiving, and a good excuse to stay up way past my bedtime!
