They tell a story — there’s a beginning, middle and end. There can be between one and three characters. They can be funny or sad or something in between, but they absolutely have to be entertaining.
And they must do so in 10 minutes or less.
Actors perform a play during a previous Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase. The showcase got its start in 2007 and ran each year consistently until 2021. Patty Petelin, NAPS board member, said the COVID-19 pandemic was a big setback.
The submissions will be blindly judged by a panel of seven local theater directors, and the top seven plays will be performed in a “dramatic reading” style.
The period to submit plays opened Aug. 1 and will run through Oct. 1. Auditions for parts in the winning plays will take place Nov. 14.
