LOCAL ROUNDUP: Area teams represent on baseball, softball all-region teams

Nearly 50 area high school baseball and softball players earned all-region recognition as the spring sports season comes to an end. The AIA recently released its list of all-region honors, with Flagstaff and Coconino High School being well represented in the 4A Grand Canyon Region and Northland Prep with a strong showing in the 2A North Region.

A handful of players and coaches also earned yearly superlatives. The Eagles swept the region coach of the year honors in both baseball and softball. Flagstaff baseball manager Kenny Macias was named the Grand Canyon Region Coach of the Year, leading his Eagles to their second region title in three years. Tommy Hernandez earned Grand Canyon Region Coach of the Year in softball, leading his Eagles to a region title in his first full year at the helm.
