Northern Arizona University commit Sayler Smith has known what it means to play soccer at Lumberjack Stadium for a long time. The Coconino girls soccer star has participated in training sessions and scrimmages on NAU’s field in the past, but recently she showcased her skills in her first real match on campus.
Playing for Flagstaff United Soccer’s 2009 girls soccer team, Smith scored a goal early in the second half against American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) United AZ North on April 22 at NAU. She had a handful of chances to score in the first half before AYSO scored right before halftime. Smith finally found an opening to tie the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
