Jumping out to a four-run lead in the first inning, the No. 10 Coconino Panthers (15-6) ensured their season would continue as they knocked off the No. 3 Sahuarita Mustangs (17-4) on Thursday.
Led by five different players with three-hit games, the Panthers hit five home runs as they beat the Mustangs 14-4 following a four-hour trip south and advanced to the final six of the 4A Conference state tournament. Sophomore Emma Kennelly hit two home runs while seniors Cassidey Castillo, Katelynn Yazzie and Sophia Ormsby also went deep in the do-or-die game.
