The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Bellemont issued a flood watch for Yavapai County, northern Gila County, Sycamore Canyons and Oak Creek. The area again includes the Pocket Fire burn scar, as well as the cities of Ash Fork, Seligman, Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Payson, Strawberry, Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek.
Beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15 to 11 p.m., the watch warns that flash flooding is possible due to excessive rainfall in the areas. Creeks, normally dry washes, swimming holes and through the recently burned areas around the Pocket Fire could be impacted. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Thunderstorms are developing over the high terrain and will move into the watch are during the afternoon and evening, with some expected to be capable of producing 1 to 2 inches of rain in less than an hour.
