FROM 1887 — Last Saturday evening, the shop of K. Manns Shoemaker was broken open, a chest containing valuables was stolen and carried to the railroad bridge about quarter of a mile distant, where it was broken open. Among other valuable articles, a gold and silver watch and a pistol were carried off. Recently Mr. Manns lost two other pistols to thieves.
D.J. Brannen and Co. have received a large invoice of fancy crockery and glassware of the latest styles, also solid silverware and an immense stock of Christmas goods that they are selling at very low prices. Call in and take look at their goods.
Some person on Monday night last stole a fine silver watch from the showcase in Kirkpatrick’s Store. People should be on guard, for there appears to be a regular gang of professional sneak thieves in town.
Is it not about time the citizens of our town took this matter in hand and adopt such measures as will rid Flagstaff of this class of lazy, petty sneaking thieves?
100 YEARS AGO
Work on the new Coconino Lumber & Timber Co. plant at Riordan is progressing rapidly under the management of Mr. Beutke. The mill site is one of the finest timbered sections in the state. The new plant will have a capacity of 80,000 feet daily, plus there is to be a planing mill and a box factory. This will bring the employment of a large force of men.
Just as the experts were lamenting the lack of striking novelty in the new crop of motor car, along comes the Studebaker Corporation with a so obviously good feature everyone is wondering why it was not done before. The innovation is a seating arrangement that, while accommodating six adult passengers instead of the old five, presents a rakish, graceful line hithertofor attained only by high-powered four-passenger types.

75 YEARS AGO
On Friday, section-hand Pedro Lara was on the track near the Hibbard Station east of Flagstaff, signaling to slow westbound trains as they approached the track workers ahead, when the fast-traveling eastbound No. 4 passenger train came along. He was struck, killed instantly and his body hurled 15 feet away.
When Carl Goldy was cleaning his Thanksgiving turkey that he had bought from Ernest Schultz of Garland Prairie, he found the craw to be half filled with discharged cartridges of 22-caliber bullets, as well as other shiny metal objects, plus the usual pebbles. It seems they are ideal agents for turkey digestion as the turkey was in unusually excellent condition.

The Forest Service has declared war on the wholesale Christmas tree thieves. The fine is $1,000. The Forest Service plans for private Christmas tree cutting to conform with their plan to implement forest health.

Sixty-seven percent of Sedona voters have voted to become incorporated, yet they opposed becoming united in one county. Thus it remains half in Coconino County and half in Yavapai.
